Imagine the shocking news to the neighbors, that
must have accompanied the recent arrest of a Grandmother
accused of chaining down her grandson for three years to
a bed. It is unbelievable how this
tragedy went unnoticed by the neighbors and of course
how our bedroom community where the city claims it is
the best place to work and raise a family becomes
violated.
The house was not owned by her, but , according to
property records, by the Nachman's living in Eagle Trace
( click here for Broward Property Record). The
alleged child abuser grandmother is obviously
renting the house.
How does this happen? I am sure many will simply say it
was a simple incident occurring in our city ...can
happen anywhere. However, if you listen to the
Police Scanner on our website, and really take note of
how many crimes are being committed, and the domestic
violence is occurring, you will be mad as hell that we
cannot do anything about it.

The reason all of this is occurring in our
neighborhoods has to do with many single family
homeowners who have left their houses are renting them
out...in many cases without doing any background checks.
In these times all is needed is simply a lot of
cash on hand, and presto ..here are the keys and to hell
with the neighborhood.
Most famous for this was the owner of Tara Gardens
on Atlantic, when one Mohammed Atta , the
mastermind and terrorist behind the 9/11 tragedy
was living in an apartment in his building on the ground
floor. Atta left his apartment two days
before to travel to Boston where he hijacked a plane and
flew it into one of the buildings at the world trade
centre in New York. The owner , who rented
out the apartment as a hotel without a hotel licenses,
took cash up front and gave him the keys.
It is not only the terrorist and the sadistic
grandmother that are a problem, it is the cost of the
services the Police now have to provide to this city, as
the riff raff enter living in our once safe
neighborhoods, unchecked until a tragedy happens.
The Coral Springs Police will tell you they get more
calls from the rental facilities around out city then
they normally due any of the signal family dwellings.
They will also not tell you renters are the
biggest problem in this city. The transient nature
does little to improve our neighborhoods while at the
same time landlords with no responsibility as corporate
citizens rent to whomever has the money in the hand.
Cash makes up for bad credit or no references.
What we need in this city is an ordinance that limits
single family neighborhoods to yearly rentals, a
requirement for background checks and a fee paid
to the city by the landlords for each dwelling rented to
offset the increase costs in services. This way at
least when someone leaves a neighborhood and rents out
their house to Child Abusers and Terrorists, the
city has some cash in hand to pay our police force.
