 It’s a sad, sad day here in Coral Springs…..The election is over and we all lost. I had my dream, my plan was taking hold. Hard to believe, right here in Coral Springs. It would have put us on the map. My candidate heard me. He felt my pain. He was going to help. Yes, Howard I. Melamed was going to help. I promised him my vote and he promised me my desire. That’s right, right here in Coral Springs. He promised me our very own petting zoo. Now Roy Gold is a very good and nice man. But did he promise me a petting zoo……no Rhon Ernest-Jones, an engineer, a land planner, a man concerned about how our town looks. Where’s Rhon out in front supporting a petting zoo?
If we’re really the best place to live, work and raise a family…..we need a zoo. Everyone always speaks about how nice San Diego is.  What a great place it is to live…Maybe it’s because they have a zoo huh. Washington DC. , a great place. They’ve got a zoo. Bronx zoo, St Louis Zoo, London Zoo….Do you see a theme here. Great cities have great zoos. No zoo, no great city. We wouldn’t have to have a lot of animals,. Maybe we could put a couple of those cows that sit in the fields waiting for zoning to be changed so they can pave it over and make it into a McDonalds. I think they’d be much happier in a zoo. How about those Coral Spring ducks. Don’t they deserve a zoo so small kids and come, look at them and pull their feathers. Let us not forget our green four legged friends, the frogs and toads.  Do we really need them croaking outside our houses? I say, frogs, toads….go to the zoo. And let’s not forget about the Everglades. I bet there are a lot of spare animals there. We could send some high schools kids out on a field trip and tell them just to bring back something. That sounds like much more fun than going to the Discovery Museum.
If we had a zoo, we could draw people from all over. They’d come from Tamarac, Lauderhill and maybe even Margate. I think probably the best place to put the zoo would be next to city hall. No one ever goes there and maybe the citizens could figure out that we do have a government here and maybe even learn to vote in elections. So Howard didn’t win and we don’t have a zoo. So let’s not stop now. Let’s take to the streets, write letters, post card, and carry signs. We deserve our zoo. If it’s too hard to get animals, maybe we could get some pet rocks...... OPINIONS?
