Florida ART Exhibition in Coral Springs:
Tasteful or Tasteless?
Guess What this Object is (Click Here)

by P. Casso

Coral Springs Florida:  Just when you think you have seen it all, along comes something that defines the word 'strange'. There are different types of Art that one can see and appreciate. There is Contemporary Art, Modern Art, and of course Pop Art.  Here in Coral Springs we have given birth to a new type of art that the world can now appreciate. It is Florida Art or what most of Coral Springs will come to know as F-Art.

There are objects being placed on Sample road by the Coral Springs Art Committee duly appointed by our city commissioners,  in an effort to show how sophisticated we Coral Springer's have become.  We need of course to compete with Fort Lauderdale and even more so with Boca, ever since the values of our homes have increased, and quite obviously our egos as well.  A renewed downtown, filled with restaurants that commonly close after a couple of months from the lack of enthusiasm, ( we used to have the greatest number of chicken restaurants several years back) to the white elephant known as our Coral Springs City Center AKA Performing Arts building, the city government wants to improve the quality of our life.  Socialism you say? Nay! This F-Art is through the gracious donations of many few Coral Springer's who have a certain taste and appreciation for the subject. Why give to any of the many deserved charities when you can afford to improve the artistic surroundings.

This great experiment is not suppose to cost us a nickel. However with each piece of junk ( I am not very opinionated) comes the need to have public works spend time and money on preparing the holy ground for the sculpture to rest.  How much does this cost or have we a generous donator to pay for that as well? Nay again...as the public works department is paid for by our taxes.

Of  course taste comes to mind when F-art is being discussed, and I suppose that F-Art Committee, dully (sp.) appointed by our city commissioners is thinking that they are doing us a service by allowing the city to have F-art everywhere.  Their taste is now your taste, begging again the question of whether or not  government should be into the fine arts with taxpayers money.  We already have a museum that the majority of the population does not go to.  The Art program in Coral Springs is another way of the pompous citizens hand picked by the city commissioners,  to throw their weight around and show off that a minority of the population can stick it to the majority....any time they want.

Art is in the Eyes of the Beholder?

So what really is the object above located on Sample Road east of Coral Hills?

  1. Southern Sanitation forgot to pick up someone's garbage
  2. Coral Springs has decided to provide housing for the only homeless person in Coral Springs.  The problem is that it is made of METAL and very uncomfortable. Statement from the only homeless person, Elliot Landsberg " This city is nuts. The beding is metal. Very uncomfortable. Besides who would stick a bed on a busy street. What is this a zoo?"
  3. City has decided to promote its image as a bedroom community. They plan to add other interesting displays along sample road including a toilet complete with someone sitting on it reading a newspaper,  and a sofa showing a typical Coral Springs Coach Potatoe watching a football game.
  4. It's for the birds. Thinking that they needed a better target the public works department commissioned this bird droppings monument.
  5. City commissioners have decided that the prostitutes of this city should be honored. As such they are placing more beds out in the open so that they can come out of the closet.  More progress to this aim will result in changing all of the city street lights in the area "Red" to indicating to all just where all of the fornicating is going on, since city hall is located just a block away from this.
  6. City is promoting new style of beds.  Coral Springs, will soon be called BED SPRINGS and the obvious implication here is to give all of the citizens a new 'bounce'.
  7. This bed is at a bus stop . This use to be a soft bed. Now it is petrified as a result of the amount of time that goes by with people waiting for a bus given the current situation of public transportation.
  8. This is an extension of the other art exhibit down to the east of this know as the Coin Laundry. What's next a clothes line with clothes pinned to it?
  9. Margate Art Exhibit closed and this was on sale.
  10. A prop from the Wizard of Oz. Dorothy came with it and she is at Starbucks having a cup of coffee.

The F-Art Committee wants to know your opinion.  Place them in our Town Hall Forum at Your Comments to the Editor

Comments to the Editor:

I have recently read P. Casso's article (which I assume is an editorial since it is jam packed with opinion) and I must say it is very biased. First of all the author not address both sides of the issue, I mean he or she could have spoken to a Coral Springs resident or even a member of the public art commitee to view their opinion on how the art works in Coral Spings. But no. They simply rattle off on how they believe art should not be part of a city's community. Wow. Obviously this author has a very closed mind and a more sports oriented personality.

Probably the worst comment this author made was regarding the CS museum. "We already have a museum that the majority of the population does not go to."

I'm sorry, but does this author even realize how hard people have worked to try and introduce art into Coral Springs. If he or she would take one moment and get off their high horse, perhaps they could realize that a little exposure to culture does a world of good.

I'm not even going to address the amount of elementary spelling and grammar mistakes. How is it that an amazingly awful article not even worthy of journalistic credit gets put on the front page of your website?

Even if the art in Coral Springs isn't the best, what matters is that people are trying and the author should have enough morality to at least do the same and give this art a chance.      -  C.D

Editor:  This is just too funny....Do you really think P.Casso is really a sports enthusiast? Wow.  This 'amazingly awful'  article is perhaps one of the lesser know pieces of work that P. Casso has produced.  I think you can very well imagine the picture P.Casso is painting.  Anyway, if we are counting spelling and grammar mistakes, P.Casso wins.  You have more than 3 grammar and spelling errors, whilst P.Casso has only 2.  As far as the F Art and the F Art committee, well....this speaks for itself
